On the other hand...

Despite my comments in the September 13th post, some voluntary organisations work well. One I know of has raised enough money to erect and staff several schools in a remote part of a distant country, all in five years. See this site for more.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, totally dependent on contributions, spends a mere three pence of every pound collected on administration. Compare that with certain international charities
